Time to highlight one of our spectacular athletes! What makes up an Athlete of the Month? Not RX’ing every workout or lifting the most weight. This athlete exhibits consistency and a hard work mentality. Every time they come to the gym they have a good attitude and give their all. This person is also welcoming of others, helping make CFHD the best community there is. Each month we choose a different athlete and post some fun facts about them to help y’all get to know them better.
This month we are recognizing one of our original members, Mr. Jarrod Arnold. We've never seen this guy put forth anything but 100% effort. He doesn't let his competitive nature get the best of him though. Jarrod is always walking in the gym with a smile and a positive attitude. He is a loyal 5:30am'er and is always encouraging his fellow athletes. Keep doing what you're doing Jarrod. H Dub is lucky to have you!

Tell us a little bit about yourself:
This is like the most difficult question ever posed to humanity (kidding). No one likes to talk about themselves and this one is so hard to answer. I’m a lot of things. I’m a brother, son, uncle, CPA, “crossfitter”, etc. I like to workout, read, listen to podcasts, play with my dog, and try to broaden my horizons all of the time and try new things. At the same time, I’m pretty simple and it doesn’t take much to make me happy.
What were your goals when you started CrossFit?
I was incredibly busy studying for the CPA exam, finishing school, and starting my career so I just wanted to get a good workout done in as little amount of time as possible. I had also started losing interest in the “old school” lifting style and wanted to do something different.
How long have you been doing CrossFit and how did you get into it?
I’ve been doing it off and on since February of 2014. I did it for about 10 months after I started, took a 1 ½ years off to focus on other things for a bit and then started back up in March of 2016 after running in my first full marathon. I originally got into it after I hurt my back pretty bad back in the day. I went to see my chiropractor and he eventually talked me into giving it a try when I was all healed up.
What is your favorite/least favorite thing we do in CrossFit?
Hands down my favorite thing we do in crossfit is support each other. The dub is never lacking in the support and you can always count on someone picking you up on your “off days”. Workout-wise though, it would have to be any longer workout where I can just set my pace, turn my mind off, and just go! Least favorite would definitely be the opposite of that. I’m not too big on workouts like Grace or Fran where it’s just an all out sprint.
How has CrossFit H Dub positively affected you?
How has it not positively afftected me…? LOL. But for real, I think the biggest thing for me was I moved to Nashville in November of 2016 knowing all of about 3 people. H dub gave me an instant family in Nashville. The crossfit community as a whole is incredible and I have never been to a bad gym, but the Dub is top notch and probably the most supportive community I’ve ever been a part of. I can trust that every day I step foot in the gym I am going to leave a lot better person than I walked in. Even on days when I’m just not feeling it or whatever, it never fails that someone picks me up during that hour. I can honestly say that I’ve never walked out of the dub in a worse mood than I’ve walked in.
What advice do you have for newcomers?
Stay consistent and just go. There are so many days where I wake up and my mind and body say “stay in bed” or “today’s just not your day”, but like I said above, as soon as I walk in the building and see a group of people that have similar goals and I know have my back, my mood immediately changes. I cannot think of a single time where I regretted going to the dub, but I can think of plenty of days where I wish I would have made it in. Even if it’s just to see my friends. You can always take it a little bit easier on yourself once you’re there if you need to, but you have to make it in first.
What is something no one at the gym knows about you?
My dream job is to be a motivational speaker, but I have an absolute fear of public speaking. Like, I shut down lol. It’s not becoming.
Who are 3 people you would have a meal or drink with dead or alive?
1. My grandpa
2. C.S. Lewis
If you had an intro song when you walk into the gym what would it be?
“I’m Gonna Be Somebody” – Travis Tritt (LOL). It can (very oddly) get me pumped up when my typical stuff just isn’t cutting it.
Crossfit!!! Jk. I don’t know. I obviously love to follow the games athletes, but I love to watch football and really enjoyed playing all sports back in another life. I think I just have a strong appreciation for sports in general and what they can provide people.
If you could have one super power what would it be?
It has to be ultimate strength, right? I mean, we’re crossfitters… LOL.
What is your favorite cheat meal?
This isn’t a meal but lately I’ve really been craving S’mores. I think it’s just a summer thing.
